Published roleplaying games, like everything else in life, can be good, bad, or indifferent. And whether you think a given RPG is good, bad, or indifferent, is largely subjective. However, sometimes even the good games we think are good can have a few flaws. I have some really good games that I think have the odd rule or element that just doesn’t work or has undesirable consequences. In these situations I generally change the rule to something that I think will work, or just leave it out of the game.
How do you feel about changing the rules of published?
Does the very thought make you shudder? Do you think that you have to play the game as published, because that’s what the designer intended and you can’t mess with his or her vision? Or do you quite enjoy tinkering with games?
Me? I’m an inveterate rules tinkerer; I just can’t help myself. However, I like to think that I have good reason for changes rules when I do so.
What about you?
