RPG, World of Darkness

I’ll skip the part where I write an eight-page introductory fiction and get right to the bloody meat of it.

"This is not the abandonment of death, nor is it the breath of life. This is a funeral song, the musical interlude between life and death, and this Requiem is all we have after the vital course of the former and the cold nothingness of the latter. The Requiem has its crescendos and its diminuendos; its wild-eyed fanatics, blood-spattered madmen, sensualists, revolutionaries, and its would-be conquerors. This is not the bittersweet music of the dearly departed, though - this is the Symphony of the Damned ."

- Charlotte Gaudibert, Aequitas Fatalis

Vampires: blood-drinking creatures of the night. Horrors born of darkness, whose sole purpose in life — unlife, actually — is to slake their unholy thirst on the blood of the living.
Without doubt, vampires are monsters.

Vampire: the Requiem

But vampires are also people, or were. Man and Beast warring for control in one body. Which will you choose to cling to, or will you try to keep a balance?

Set in the World of Darkness, like ours but worse, come play Vampire the Requiem. Become embraced as one of the five archetypal clans of vampires- the seductive Daeva, the savage Gangrel, the shadowy Mekhet, the hideous Nosferatu or the aristocratic Ventrue.

Drink the blood of mortals or stick to rats, develop grand vampiric powers, dabble in blood sorcery or join a secret society. What you decide to do with your Requiem is up to you. You have eternity to enjoy it. Perhaps.

There will be players there next week to create characters, but there’s always room for some more if anyone else would like to try some World of Darkness.

Planescape- Summer Quarter

I’d like to offer up a game for next quarter. The last one was a success so I would like to return once again to the exciting and varied world of Planescape. In the previous adventure the players started as newcomers to  Sigil- a city full of portals to countless realms of existence. Amongst other things, they solved a kidnapping spree, mounted a daring rescue, made some friends and stopped a plot to make the city fall into hell.

I’ll be using a slightly modified version of the Mouse Guard (itself a simpler form of Burning Wheel) system as I did before. A simple d6 dice pool system with emphasis on teamwork and character’s personal beliefs.1994_lady-of-pain

GM: Chris Middleton                                                                              System: Star Wars: Edge of the Empire                                              Players: 4 players, 5 tops

In a galaxy far, far away…….

It is a dark time for the galaxy and the Rebellion alike. Although rumours abound, through the galaxy, of the destruction of The Empire super weapon, known as The Death Star. This has enabled the Empire to tighten its grip on the galaxy, even extending their reach to the Outer Rim of the galaxy.

Imperial troops have driven the Rebel forces from their hidden base and pursued them across the galaxy.

The evil Emperor Palpatine has setup a new elite Order with the remit of finding and killing the remaining Jedis, as well as hunting key personnel working for the Rebellion in secret. The ruthless efficiency and blind devotion of these sinister agents have driven many Jedi into hiding, or seeking the help of outlaws on the edge of the rim. While the reach and effectiveness of the rebellion’s secret agents across the galaxy are being decimated with mercenary precision.

However, some brave Rebellion spies have managed to infiltrate the High Command of the Imperial Fleet and retrieved a devastating weapon that will surely turn the tide of battle against the remorseless Imperial Armada, at the cost of their lives.

A Different Question

Most of our posts here are GMs offering games they would like to run, but they often get few replies. Rob made a very good point that with so few on offer they might not always be to everyone’s tastes so a better question might be what do members want to play?

Getting a rough feeling for what people want might allow those intending on running to present games that would be more in demand. All it might take to change the mind of someone sitting out for a quarter could be something very small. A different system or a cosmetic genre-paint job aren’t usually that difficult to implement. Just a thought I’d put out there for you to consider.

So is there something you’d like to play? It could be a long seated desire for a Shadowrun campaign or maybe you want to scratch a sudden itch for barn animals piloting mechas in space. Whatever it is, let the GMs know!

New Quarter Game: Mutant City Blues

GUMSHOE, RPG

Ever since the Sudden Mutation Event, people have been able to fly. Phase through walls. Read minds. Shoot bolts of energy from their fingertips. Walk into dreams.

As members of the elite Heightened Crime Investigation Unit, you and your fellow detectives solve crimes involving the city’s mutant community. When a mutant power is used to kill, you catch the case. When it’s a mutant victim in the chalk outline, you get the call. And when it comes time for a fight, you deploy your own extraordinary abilities to even the odds.

With new human capacity has come new science. Your squad brings forensic science to bear on the solution of mutant crimes. Need to know if a suspect is the victim of mind control or dream observation? Perform an EMAT protocol to detect the telltale signs of external influence. Was your victim killed by a light blast? Use Energy Residue Analysis to match the unique wound pattern to the murderer, as surely as ballistic science links a bullet to a gun.

Does your crime scene yield trace evidence of two separate powers? Use your trusty copy of the Quade Diagram, the infallible map of genetic relationships between mutant powers, to tell if one suspect could have used both – or if you have two perps on your hands.

If chases, interrogations and mutant battles weren’t enough to handle, you also serve as a bridge between the authorities and your mutant brethren. To successfully close cases, you must navigate the difficult new politics of post-mutation society, and deal with your own personal issues and mutation-caused defects.

MUTANT CITY BLUES runs on GUMSHOE, the acclaimed investigative rules set powering the hit new game Trail Of Cthulhu. GUMSHOE offers a simple yet revolutionary method for writing, running and playing mystery scenarios. It ensures fast-flowing play, always giving you the informational puzzle pieces you need to propel your latest case toward its exciting final revelations.

Police work will never be the same.
